NIIE Students Gain Insights into ESG and Sustainable Business with Abu Dhabi University Faculty

Recently, students from the NIIE Institute (NTT Institute of International Education) – Nguyen Tat Thanh University attended the workshop “ESG and Sustainable Business: The Future of Responsible Organizations” led by Dr. Prerna Kumari, Assistant Professor of Management, College of Business, Abu Dhabi University (UAE). The program provided students with valuable insights into ESG and the role of sustainable development against the backdrop of global enterprises facing numerous environmental, social, and governance shifts.

Attending the workshop from NIIE were Dr. Nguyen Manh Hoang – Vice Director of NIIE; Dr. Ngo To Giao – Head of Logistics and Supply Chain Management Department at NIIE; Dr. Ta Huu Hien – NIIE Lecturer, and Dr. Nguyen Duc Hoai Anh – NIIE Lecturer. The event attracted broad interest from a large number of students across various majors, particularly fields relating to business, logistics, management, and finance.

An expert with over 16 years of experience in management and sustainable development

Dr. Prerna Kumari is currently an Assistant Professor of Management at the College of Business, Abu Dhabi University. She holds a Doctor of Business Administration from the University of Northampton (United Kingdom) and possesses over 16 years of experience in higher education, human resource management, and academic research.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Prerna Kumari is an active researcher with numerous publications in international Scopus Q1 and Q2 indexed journals across fields of management, leadership, human resources, and sustainable development. Notably, she has also participated in designing and implementing training programs on ESG and Sustainability for corporate and public sectors in the UAE.

When ESG is no longer just a story for major corporations

Opening the workshop, the speaker shared the paradigm shift in corporate management thinking worldwide. While businesses previously focused primarily on financial performance, the current trend is shifting toward generating sustainable values and balancing economic, social, and environmental interests. ESG, therefore, is no longer merely an image-building or public relations activity but is becoming a crucial element that helps businesses manage risks and achieve long-term development.

The workshop also touched upon ESG and its context in Vietnam

One of the topics that captured great interest from students was the distinction between CSR and ESG. According to the speaker, while CSR usually centers on voluntary social responsibility activities, ESG is assessed based on specific metrics and data, serving as a benchmark for investors and financial institutions to evaluate an enterprise’s level of sustainable development.

The workshop also addressed the context of Vietnam, where an increasing number of businesses are committing to pursuing ESG. Through this, students gained more perspectives on corporate governance trends of the future, as well as the role of the younger generation in driving sustainable development models.

A fresh perspective for students in the era of sustainable development

Beyond specialized knowledge, the workshop helped students better understand how ESG is impacting business, investment, and corporate governance practices globally. Utilizing real-world examples from the UAE and various other nations, the students had the opportunity to broaden their viewpoints on the new standards toward which modern enterprises are striving.

Concluding the program, the workshop not only delivered insights into ESG and sustainable development but also introduced NIIE students to governance trends that are shaping the future of business. This is also one of the international academic activities designed to provide students with opportunities to connect with foreign experts, update themselves with cutting-edge knowledge, and prepare their skill sets for a future global working environment.
