NTTU Implements the “Drug-Free School” Model for All Staff and Students

Implementing the policy of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on building Ho Chi Minh City into a drug-free area by 2030 and the guiding documents of the Ministry of Education and Training, the Party Committee, and the Board of Management, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has officially implemented the “Drug-Free School” model, aiming to build a safe, civilized learning environment that says no to drugs.

The “Drug-Free School” model was officially put into operation at Nguyen Tat Thanh University starting from the 2025 – 2026 academic year, marking a shift from propaganda work to the synchronized deployment of prevention, combat, and drug control measures within the educational environment. This is also the University’s commitment to building a healthy learning environment, raising awareness, and promoting the responsibility of officials, lecturers, employees, and students in drug prevention and control.

According to the plan, the model focuses on synchronously deploying multiple groups of solutions, such as: promoting propaganda and dissemination of laws on drug prevention and control; enhancing management, supervision, and timely detection and prevention of violations; building a safe and civilized school environment; and promoting the pioneering role of students in spreading a healthy, positive, and responsible lifestyle.

Nguyen Tat Thanh University has announced the Decision on establishing the Steering Committee for implementing the “Drug-Free School” model, approving the implementation plan and assigning specific tasks to units across the university.

Accordingly, the Department of Student Affairs, Internal Audit Department, Organization and Personnel Department, Communications Department, Youth Union – Student Association, Dormitory Management Services Center, alongside faculties, institutes, and related units, will coordinate to implement activities concerning propaganda, education, management, inspection, supervision, and handling of arising situations, ensuring that the model is implemented uniformly and effectively.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. People’s Teacher Nguyen Kim Hong – President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University emphasized that implementing the “Drug-Free School” model is not only about executing the policies and directives of the Central Government and Ho Chi Minh City on drug prevention and control, but also demonstrates the University’s determination to build a safe, healthy educational environment centered on learners.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. People’s Teacher Nguyen Kim Hong affirmed that for the model to be effective, synchronized engagement is required from all officials, lecturers, employees, and students, alongside strengthened coordination between the University and police forces and functional agencies in propaganda, management, prevention, and handling of violations. Through this, it contributes to shaping a civilized school culture that says no to drugs, creating favorable environments for students to study, train, and develop comprehensively.

To ensure that the model is implemented substantively and achieves long-term effectiveness, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has established a set of evaluation criteria linked to specific contents.

Accordingly, units across the university will focus on implementing various contents, such as: propagating and disseminating laws on drug prevention and control, maintaining a safe learning and working environment without allowing drug crimes and social evils to arise on campus; executing effective situation grasping, management, and student support; while strengthening coordination with police forces and local authorities in information exchange, inspection, and handling of arising incidents.

This set of criteria also serves as the basis for the University to regularly review, evaluate, and refine the model toward effectiveness and sustainability.

The implementation of the “Drug-Free School” model not only contributes to building a safe and civilized educational environment at Nguyen Tat Thanh University but also demonstrates the University’s responsibility in concretizing the policies of the Party and State on enhancing drug prevention and control in the new context.

Through this, it contributes to realizing the goal of building a generation of young citizens with resilience, law-abiding awareness, a healthy lifestyle, and community responsibility, joining hands to materialize the objective of building a drug-free Ho Chi Minh City by 2030 and building a safe, sustainably developing society.
