The Central-Level “Student of 5 Merits” is not merely a title; it represents a journey of comprehensive self-development, affirming the intelligence and resilience of the new generation of Vietnamese students, as manifested through five key criteria:
- Achieving the required training point score (usually classified as “Good” or higher).
- No violations of the law, university regulations, or local public orders.
- Active participation in education programs on patriotism, ethics, lifestyle, or movements to study and follow Ho Chi Minh’s teachings.
- Achieving a Grade Point Average (GPA) meeting the university’s requirements (usually 3.0/4.0 or higher, depending on the grading scale).
- Completing the minimum number of credits per semester (usually 12 credits or more).
- No failed or debt modules and completing the academic curriculum on schedule.
- Achieving the “Healthy Youth” title or meeting physical fitness standards according to regulations.
- Alternatively, regular participation in sports clubs or athletic tournaments organized by the university or faculty.
- Participating in at least 05 days of volunteer work per year (cumulative across multiple campaigns such as the Green Summer, Volunteer Spring, Green Sunday, etc.).
- Receiving recognition or certificates of merit from the Youth Union, Students’ Association, or relevant authorities.
- Achieving the required foreign language proficiency (English, etc.) according to university or central standards.
- Completing certificates or courses in social practical skills and information technology (IT).
- Participating in academic clubs, seminars, professional competitions, startups, or cultural and artistic events.
With the aim of continuously improving the quality of the “Student of 5 Merits” movement, the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Students’ Association has issued updated regulations, amending and supplementing the selection criteria for the Central-Level “Student of 5 Merits” and “Student Group of 5 Merits” titles.
These new regulations will take effect starting from the 2025-2026 academic year, replacing the previous Regulation on selecting the Central-Level “Student of 5 Merits” and “Student Group of 5 Merits” titles (amended and supplemented) promulgated along with Decision No. 201-QĐ/TWHSV dated March 2, 2022, by the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Vietnamese Students’ Association.
The amendments and additions to the criteria are designed to adapt to the new context, contributing to encouraging students’ comprehensive development, enhancing their capabilities in learning, physical training, moral character, integration, and social responsibility.
