Be vigilant against fake accounts and fake news – NTTU students, verify before you trust!

During your studies and active use of social networks, students may encounter fake accounts, messages, links, or fraudulent information impersonating the University, its affiliated departments, or university staff. This information could be exploited to trick students into providing personal data, account credentials, or carrying out monetary transactions.
In particular, do not rush to trust an account simply because its name, avatar, or logo looks like NTTU’s. Before providing information, logging into any link, or making any transaction, students must verify and cross-check the information source through official channels.
## ⚠️ Red flags students must stay alert to
### 1. Unverified social media accounts
Be cautious with accounts claiming to represent the University, Departments, Faculties, Institutes, or University staff that are unverified and do not appear on official information channels.
An account name, profile picture, or logo resembling NTTU is not proof of an official account.
### 2. Messages requesting personal information
Do not provide unverified sources with details such as:
- Student ID Number (MSSV);
- Personal identification details;
- Passwords;
- OTP codes;
- Bank account details or other security information.
### 3. Requests for money transfers or unusual transactions
Students should be especially cautious regarding requests related to:
- Tuition fee payments or other fees;
- Scholarship distribution;
- Refunds;
- Transferring money to unknown account numbers;
- Executing unusual transactions as instructed by unverified accounts or individuals.
### 4. Links or QR codes of unknown origin
Do not rush to access links or scan QR codes sent from unclear sources, especially when these links require logging in or entering personal or financial details.
If you receive a link or QR code related to University activities, verify the source before taking any action.
### 5. Urgent or panic-inducing content
Beware of messages with urgent phrasing such as:
- “Act immediately”;
- “Confirm right now”;
- “Account will be locked if not completed”;
- Or notifications designed to create an artificial sense of urgency and panic, forcing students to act without thinking.
These are often clear signs of phishing tactics intended to make recipients drop their guard before verifying the truth.
