Overwhelmed by Choice: High School Seniors Struggle with the ‘Matrix’ of Hot Majors

More than 1.22 million candidates have registered for the 2026 high school graduation exam, a record high. Following the pressure of test scores, many 12th graders continue to enter another equally important “problem”: choosing a major, choosing a school, and placing a suitable 1st preference amidst a series of rapidly changing career trends driven by AI and digital transformation.

In this context, quite a few students are starting to pay more attention to the training environment, career opportunities, scholarship policies, and the university’s ability to accompany them in the long run instead of just looking at “hot majors” or benchmark scores.

Placing the 1st preference is no longer an emotional choice

Every admission season, phrases like “hot majors”, “thousand-dollar salaries”, “easy to find a job”, or “what to study to avoid being replaced by AI” cover social networks and admission forums. Not a few students choose their majors based on trends, advice on the internet, or because they see their friends registering for a certain field.

Some choose a major because it is “trending”, some choose to please their families, while in many other cases, scores are viewed as the deciding factor for the future. This exact practice causes many students to fall into a state of disorientation only a short time after entering university.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Merit Teacher Nguyen Kim Hong – President of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, believes that the 1st preference should not be an emotional choice or one based on the crowd. Instead, it needs to be based on the level of compatibility between the learner and the training environment, experimental opportunities, and long-term career orientation.

According to him, today’s university environment determines not only learning but also influences skills, practical experiences, and the ability to adapt to the labor market after graduation.

Why is school code NTT capturing the attention of many candidates for their 1st preference?

Hua Thi Xuan Hieu – the university-wide valedictorian for the intake of K25 in Odonto-Stomatology at Nguyen Tat Thanh University, stated that the aspect she considered most before choosing her preference was not “which major is hot”, but whether the learning environment matches her own long-term orientation.

According to Xuan Hieu, the reason she chose NTTU is that, in addition to the specialized training curriculum, the university places emphasis on the practical environment, hands-on experiences, and real-world connections early on. This helps students understand the profession better instead of just learning theory in class.

Currently, Nguyen Tat Thanh University provides multi-disciplinary training across technology, health, economics, communications, tourism, languages, engineering, and design. At the same time, it enhances corporate experience, professional practice, and skills to adapt to the labor market in the era of AI and digital transformation.

In the 2026 admission season, one of the reasons that makes many candidates interested in school code NTT for their 1st preference is the scholarship and financial support policies deployed right from the beginning of the course.

According to provisional information, Nguyen Tat Thanh University is deploying an admission scholarship fund with a total value of up to 75 billion VND to support and encourage candidates in the new admission season.

Notably, candidates who register school code NTT as their 1st preference on the system of the Ministry of Education and Training are expected to receive a scholarship worth 12 million VND upon early completion of enrollment procedures, which is higher than the support rate for other preferences. Students will also be gifted a foreign language voucher worth 5 million VND right from their first year to improve their integration capabilities in international learning and working environments.

Besides, the university continues to roll out many support policies for candidates with outstanding academic records and special circumstances in the 2026 admission season. Accordingly, candidates who achieve high results across admission methods have the opportunity to receive scholarships from 80% to 100% of the tuition fee for semester 1.

The university also offers various incentive policies ranging from 50% to 100% tuition fees for candidates who win prizes in excellent student competitions, science – technology, arts, and sports at all levels. Simultaneously, it implements the “Strength to Overcome Difficulties” program, supporting up to a 50% tuition reduction for the entire course for students facing difficult circumstances.

Particularly, Nguyen Tat Thanh University announces its tuition fees right from the beginning of the course and commits to no increases throughout the entire duration of study, helping parents and students proactively arrange long-term financial plans.
