To promote the protection of intellectual property rights for socio-economic development in the new era, the Politburo has issued Conclusion No. 51-KL/TW, affirming the crucial role of protecting intellectual assets in fostering innovation and national development.
Are these just “small things”?
Often, we dismiss certain actions as trivial, yet they can have significant consequences:
- Downloading “cracked” software because it’s free.
- Watching movies on illegal websites for convenience.
- Listening to unlicensed music just because “everyone else is doing it.”
- Copying documents, images, or content online without citing the source.
These seemingly harmless actions infringe upon intellectual property rights, directly affecting the rights and legal interests of individuals and organizations that have invested effort, time, and intellect into creating these products.
The reality of digital intellectual property violations
Following the peak period of implementing the Prime Minister’s Official Dispatch No. 38/CĐ-TTg, authorities discovered over 2,000 cases showing signs of intellectual property infringement. This resulted in administrative actions against 1,616 cases, the handling of over 115 billion VND worth of violating goods, and the blocking of 1,073 copyright-infringing websites. These figures highlight the complex state of digital IP infringement and the need for collective action from society.
As NTTU students, start with the simplest actions:
- Refrain from watching, downloading, or sharing copyrighted movies, music, and software illegally.
- Respect authorship and intellectual property rights for all creative products.
- Utilize legal documents, software, and platforms.
- Cite sources clearly when using materials for study, research, and content creation.
- Spread a culture of respect for copyright among friends and the community.
Protecting intellectual property rights begins with small, daily actions. Let us join fellow NTTU students in respecting copyrights, using legal products, and contributing to building a foundation for innovation—a vital pillar for the nation’s development.
