Recently, information regarding the Nipah virus has gained international attention. To ensure you receive accurate information, avoid unnecessary panic, and proactively protect your health, the Department of Student Affairs wishes to provide you with the latest updates from the Ministry of Health:
📣 CURRENT SITUATION

Globally: India has recorded 05 suspected cases (02 confirmed) in West Bengal state.
-
Vietnam: Currently, NO cases have been recorded.

Characteristics: This is a Class A infectious disease with a high mortality rate (40–75%), and no specific vaccine or treatment exists yet.
🌐 HOW IS NIPAH VIRUS TRANSMITTED? The disease spreads through 3 main routes:

Animal-to-human: Primarily via fruit bats or contact with secretions/excreta from infected animals.

Foodborne: Consuming fruits or raw sap contaminated with waste/excreta from infected bats/animals.

Human-to-human: Direct contact with secretions or excreta from infected patients.
🔍 RECOGNIZING SIGNS & SYMPTOMS (Incubation period: 4 – 14 days) If you experience the following symptoms, particularly after returning from an outbreak area, please take note:

Fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, sore throat.

Dizziness, drowsiness, confusion.

Severe cases: Convulsions, acute encephalitis.
🛡️ 5 “GOLDEN” RULES FOR PREVENTION The Ministry of Health advises implementing the following measures immediately:

Safe Eating & Drinking: Absolutely avoid fruits showing signs of bird or bat bites; wash thoroughly and peel carefully before consumption. Do not drink raw, unprocessed sap.

Personal Hygiene: Wash hands frequently with soap or hand sanitizer.

Limit Contact: Avoid close contact with fruit bats or animals suspected of being infected.

Travel Caution: Limit non-essential travel to areas with active outbreaks.

Medical Declaration: If returning from an outbreak area within 14 days and displaying suspected symptoms, go to the nearest medical facility immediately and report your travel history.
